Art Cohen's sonic constructs are totally fascinating, abstract puzzle pieces of sound that linger in the mind long after the tape ends -- and isn't that a sign you've just experienced something innovative and original? Chuck van Zyl's sense of artistic judgement is sharp, to be sure. Cohen's mastery of sound and electronics again proves the amount of intelligent musicians who populate this wunnerful U.S. of A. who are in dire need of true recognition. "Thin Gold Thread" rests on a prickly bed of urchin-like percussive sequences while near-familiar cloaks of synth unfurl around them. "Tap of the Zap" is even more lively, a sparkling, electric soundscape of galactic synths and obtuse rhythms. Wirehead is most unusual, and most strinking. Cohen's yet another artist on the vanguard of new progressive space music.
