On Available Space, crafty soundmeister Cohen, here doing amusingly disturbing things with his guitar, is joined by electronic keyboardist Steve Bowman. Together the two create constantly shifting, alien landscapes with more than a nod to Manuel Gottsching, Niel Nappe, and some of Fripp and Eno's chilly textures from Evening Star. "Aquamarine" sports some pristine synths and fuzzed - out, spaced - out, receding guitars, while "Serpent of Circumstance" is a near - perfect exploration of tape loop country, hypnotic, daunting and compelling, the nearest thing to an Americanized version of Ashra. Look at the cue cards in the foreground, they're easy enough to read: more, more!
