The Ministry of Inside ThingsPerforming Live 2008:
|
The Ministry of Inside Things will bring the order of the cosmos to the chaos of everyday life at public concerts this Autumn. | |
![]() MoIT - live at Soundscapes 22Jun02 |
The Ministry of Inside Things, includes Chuck van Zyl on synths and Art Cohen on guitar. Their music has been inspired by the Berlin-School of cosmic spacemusic and influenced by everything from sci-fi themes to nuclear fission to chillout room abstractions.
The group's goal is to create in the mind of the listener a sense of movement through space along the arc of a dynamic contour. Owing much to improvisation, each original performance traverses a vast sonic terrain. Concerts conclude with the audience finding themselves to be in quite a different place after experiencing the journey. |
MoIT enjoys the live environment and uses it to further explore and invent their musical stylings. MoIT has in the past performed live on the radio shows: STAR'S END, GALACTIC TRAVELS ECHOES and NOCTURNAL TRANSMISSIONS, as part of the Gate to Moonbase Alpha, Soundscapes and The Gatherings concert series' as well as at The Sellersville Theater, The Whitaker Center, The Institute of Contemporary Art and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. | ![]() MoIT - live at The Gatherings 15Nov03 |

![]() The Philadelphia based Spacemusic duo The Ministry of Inside Things exist outside the confines of the recording studio and in the realm of the live performance. As MoIT, Art Cohen (guitar) and Chuck van Zyl (synths) continue a tradition of bringing an otherwise methodical studio based artform out into the spontaneity of the performance environment. Their third CD Ambient Elsewhere feels dark and isolated when compared to their two earlier releases. While Everlasting Moment explored the edges, dynamics and tension of space and atmosphere, and Contact Point embraced the more unified themes of cosmic, biospheric and macrocosmic interaction, Ambient Elsewhere moves through a strange new territory in-between and outside of traditional Spacemusic. Drawn from a range of chilling themes, this album sonifies wintertime, desolate landscapes and the soul's midnight. Moving through the timbral badlands of the empty quarter, Ambient Elsewhere offers up a courageous intimacy. Always bringing their own influences and innovation to the music process, MoIT produces a sound that is uniquely individual and personal. The Ministry of Inside Things will release a new double CD at their upcoming performance at The Gatherings Concert Series. The music from Ambient Elsewhere has been drawn from several recent tour performances and features definitive live versions of classic MoIT pieces like "Love Attack" and "Naylor's Run". The album contains two one hour long suites of spacemusic and easily flows through a variety of themes, energy levels and styles.
